The Whiting Public Library offers a variety of resources and services, including access to books, materials, and online databases. To utilize these, patrons typically need a library card, which can be obtained by providing a photo ID and proof of address. The Library also offers reciprocal borrowing privileges with other libraries in Lake County and statewide in Indiana.
How can I get a library card?
Patrons can obtain a library card by providing a photo ID and proof of address.
Online resources:
The library provides access to a variety of online databases and resources, including The New York Times, Hoopla, and Ancestry, along with many others. Please note:
* All other databases can be accessed remotely using your Whiting Public Library card
* Ancestry can only be used inside the library.
* The New York Times requires a daily redeem code, which you can obtain by visiting the library’s New York Times page on our website (a valid Whiting Public Library card is needed).
Library Fines:
The Whiting Public Library is a fine-free library! However, patrons are still responsible for lost or damaged materials.
Library Hours:
The Whiting Public Library is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Tuesday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Renewing your library card:
Resident cards (green Evergreen cards) are due for renewal every two years. Reciprocal Borrower cards (blue Evergreen cards) are due for renewal every year. If your card is due for renewal, bring your current Whiting Public Library card to either the Adult or Children’s Circulation desk.
What is my PIN?
Your Library PIN is a 4-digit number used to access your account. You can set it up when registering for a library card or visit the library for assistance—staff at the Adult or Children’s Desk will be happy to help.
How can I return materials if the library is closed?
A materials drop is located along the library’s side entrance, located on Ohio Ave.
Can I reserve Library Materials?
YES. All materials may be reserved. If a waiting list exists, items may not be renewed.
